Make your eyes pop!

MAKE YOUR EYES STAND OUT

BLUE EYES

If you want to make your blue eyes stand out start by using the right eye shadow colors. Brown, beige and silver work best, but maybe not altogether.

BROWN EYES

Browns eyes can really pop with gold, tan and blue shades of shadow. The color contrast is what helps bring them out.

GREEN EYES

Makeup artist suggest using purple, blue, sliver and pink to really emphasis green eyes.

SMALL EYES

Sometimes smaller eyes don’t get as much attention, but with the right eyeliner tips you can really make your eyes stand out. You are going to want to line your top lash line from the midpoint of our eye to the outer edge. You can even go beyond the edge just a little. Also line your lower lash line a quarter of the way in. This technique draws attention to the outside of your eyes making them appear larger.

BRIGHTEN UP

Are your eyes looking a little dull? Try to brighten them up with a little peach or beige liner along the bottom rim from corner to corner.

EYELASHES

My favorite way to make eyes stand out with by curling lashes. If your lashes are straight or point down this technique will really open up your eyes.

MASCARA

Mascara has a way of taking your face from boring to vivacious. Black mascara is the key to making your eyes stand out.

EVEN BRIGHTER EYES

Another tip to brighten up your eyes is to use a little white shadow on the inside of your eye near the tear ducts. Just this little bit of white can make a huge difference.

HIGHLIGHT

Don’t forget to highlight your brow bone. This is the area beneath your eyebrows and above your crease. Add a simple light white or beige shade to the area for full effect.

EYEBROWS

While we are on the topic of eyebrows let’s not forget to keep those bad boys tame. Unruly eyebrows can draw attention away from your eyes. If you want your to make your eyes stand out be sure to pluck or wax your brows.

DEEP-SET EYES

Do you have deep set eyes? If you do here is little tip. Use a shimmery shadow in the hue appropriate for your eye color. The shimmer will draw your eyes out more.

NEUTRAL LIP COLOR

Either you want to draw attention to your eyes or your lips. You can’t do both. That’s just too much drama for one face. If you want to make your eyes stand out wear a neutral lip color.

DARK CIRCLES

Conceal dark circles under your eyes. We want people to notice your eyes for good reasons, not because you have bags and look like you haven’t slept in days.

BLACK LINER NO-NO

While a heavy black eyeliner circle around your entire eye will attract attention, it’s not the kind of attention we were seeking. Avoid doing this. It makes your eye look really small.

FALSE LASHES

I think fake lashes look terrific and with black liner are gorgeous for a night out or a special event. I don’t think the same look is as effective for a run to the grocery store or post office. Save the all that glamour for the right occasion.

GLASSES

Do you wear glasses? Don’t worry you can still make your eyes stand out. Add a light concealer underneath your eye all the way to the outer corner. The light color attracts attention and hides in shadow caused by glasses.

BIGGER LASHES

If you want to add more drama to your lashes without going all out with faux lashes, trying applying a couple more coats to the outer lashes. It will make them appear thicker and longer.

BOTTOM LASHES

Sometimes these poor little guys just get forgotten, but if you really want to make your eyes stand out you will show them a little attention. Don’t go crazy, one or two coats of mascara should be enough.

Food For Healthy Hair

great FOODS FOR YOUR HAIR

For the most luxurious locks possible you’ll need to look into your kitchen to find the most rich foods that will benefit your hair. Nourish your locks from the inside out by eating nutrient full food that promotes strength and shine.

EGGS

This common breakfast food works wonders for your hair with a special vitamin called biotin. This B vitamin helps to encourage hair growth and renew hair follicles to create thicker, fuller locks. A lack of biotin in your diet can create dry, brittle hair. Eggs also help to stimulate and contribute to your scalp’s overall health, which can help hair grow faster and longer, making eggs one of the best foods for your hair.

dark green VEGETABLES

Dark green vegetables like broccoli and spinach have hair-healing powers. These dark green veggies are full with vitamin A and C, which help to create a natural scalp oil that works as a hair conditioner to pump vital and necessary oils into our hair to stimulate growth and renewal. Your hair’s natural oils are what keep your hair healthy and strong for hair that’s always shiny and never dull.

STRAWBERRIES

Succulent strawberries are not only a sweet treat, they’re rich in vitamin C too which makes them one of the best foods for your hair! Vitamin C rich fruits like strawberries help your body absorb iron, which is fundamental for healthy hair and maximum growth. Too little of this vitamin will make hair dry and weak. By eating just a few strawberries a day you can increase your hair’s health by encouraging stronger, resilient strands with your diet.

NUTS

A healthy daily intake of nuts is a good source of natural fat our body needs, as well as your hair. Like eggs, nuts are full of biotin, which contributes to healthy, beautiful hair. Peanuts, almonds and macadamias are all great dietary options for restoring hair’s natural oils and shine.

OYSTERS

Oysters are rich in zinc, which helps to stimulate and aid hair in follicle renewal. This shellfish delight manages your body’s production of the hormone androgen. Androgen, in low levels, has been linked to hair loss so zinc-rich diets will help to keep hair on your head for longer while keeping it soft and shiny.

SALMON

Salmon is high in protein, which helps to maintain strong, healthy hair. When it comes to a food that packs a beauty punch, nothing has been quite as effective as salmon. This high-quality protein source is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, which help to support scalp health and lustrous shine.

BEANS

Legumes play a huge role in hair maintenance and support for hair that’s healthy and revitalized. Beans are an excellent source of iron protein, which packs powerful nutrients to nourish your hair with. Specifically, lentils are high in iron and folate to create strong, luscious locks and banish hair loss.

SWEET POTATO

The sweet potato for a diet that nourished both skin and hair. Sweet potato contains beta-carotene, which your body produces into vitamin A that aids in the fight against dandruff. To avoid dull, dry hair add sweet potatoes into your diet and maintain your tresses with a boost of vitamin A.

KALE

This super food, much like the sweet potato is packed with beta-carotene and is key to maintaining a healthy and well-hydrated scalp to avoid brittle hair and dandruff. Kale is especially useful for follicle growth and turnover for hair that grows longer and stronger every strand.

RED MEAT

Did you know that not enough iron could cause baldness? Which is why the consumption of lead red meat is important to your hair. Adding more iron into your diet in the form of lean red meat can help to re-grow hair making hair super long and strong. If you’re suffering from hair loss or thinning hair check your diet, as iron-deficiency is a common problem when it comes to hair growth.
When it comes to healthy hair, styling products can only do so much, which is why improving your diet with the best foods for your hair can revive and restore your tresses back to full strength. Improve your hair to long, luscious locks in just a few months by starting a hair-healthy diet today!

Shedding Hair

how to COpe WITH SEASONAL HAIR SHEDDING

Seasonal hair shedding can be such a nightmare! There are ways to make sure even the most serious of shedding doesn’t bother you that much. You don’t have anything to risk but a few minutes of your time! Take a look at this list of easy cures for hair shedding problems that have been driving you crazy, try them out and start enjoying every season:

BRUSHING MORE OFTEN

Even the ladies with wavy to curly hair have to start working on their relationship with a brush or a comb! I know you think it ruins the curls and makes your hair look like you've stuck your finger in a socket, but it’s the only way to get rid of the dead hairs stuck in the mass of healthy, live ones. Try to comb yours twice, once in the morning and once before bed but you can do it more often if you’d like. In case you’re worried this will mess up your curls, here’s a trick, run wet fingers through your hair once you’re done brushing, or spritz some water, and give your curls about 15-30 minutes to air dry and regroup.

LEAVE YOUR HAIR LOOSE

Take your pick among tons of great styles to help you look your best each day but remember to untie your hair while chilling in the comfort of your own home. Styles that put a lot of stress onto your scalp and roots are not the most ideal choice for all day round wear anyways! And that’s not all, ponytails and buns won’t let the loose hairs fall out naturally, increasing the chances of them getting all tangled with the healthy ones as well as the risk of damaging your hair while trying to detangle and remove dead hairs.

AVOID HEAVY STYLING PRODUCTS

You don’t want dead hairs sticking and tangling with your healthy ones, so the solution is to avoid mousses, hair gels and all the other products that make your hair sticky. We’re not talking about long-term commitment here, of course, just something you may want to think about in those days when your hair seems to shed more than it grows.

EXPERIMENT WITH BANGS

Once the seasonal hair shedding had stopped you’ll probably end up dealing with a lot of baby hairs! Now’s the perfect time to give bangs a go. A stylish full fringe will help you hide that unruly peach fuzz at your hairline. The worst of shedding usually happens in autumn or early spring which means you’ll definitely have enough time to grow out your bangs before the next hot summer!

STYLE IT RIGHT

Speaking about baby hairs, fuzz, frizz and all the post shedding drama, remember what I told you about ditching heavy styling products? Well, you can forget about it at this point! Once all the old hair has fallen out and there’s tons of new frizzies to worry about, you could use all the help a hairspray, gel, pomade and shine serum can provide! Use gels and hair sprays to nail down a perfectly glamorous sleek bun or chignon or opt for a shine serum to help smooth down those tiny fly aways.

AVOID CERTAIN COLORS AND/OR FABRICS

It’s actually quite simple, in the case that your hair is dark, you should probably stick to darker colors and vice versa. It’s not a rule you should follow for months thus limiting your outfit choices, merely a cool trick to help you look your best even in those days when the shedding gets unbearable. Choose your fabrics carefully as well! Rougher or static-y fabrics will prolong your agony and make the loose hairs stick while silkier, softer or less static-prone ones help them roll off undetected.

Longer Eyelashes

how to make your EYELASHES APPEAR LONGER

Longer eyelashes are the way to go this season, and finding the right ways to make eyelashes look longer isn't always easy! If you've tried every single thing to lengthen your eyelashes, and are looking for the tips to help you get fuller eyelashes, here are some great tips to guide you along the way.

Powder

One of the greatest ways to make eyelashes look longer, and be more plush, is by adding a bit of powder to you lashes before you've applied your mascara. What this does is make your lashes super lush, totally plush, and thick. It also makes the mascara stay on a little bit longer without clumping! This is very easy to get the longer lashes you've desired.
Color
All you do to get fuller eyelashes is coat your lashes in black, then use a dark brown along the tips and then coat them in black again. This absolutely will make your lashes appear thicker and longer!
Lengthening Mascara
Coat your lashes at least a couple times with the lengthening mascara, making sure you coat every single lash before you move on. It’s a great way to make your eyes look bigger and your lashes look longer!
Eyelash Curler
After one use of the eyelash curler, you’ll see just just how beautiful your eyelashes can really look and just how curly they can be! Be careful and don’t use your eyelash curler every single day, it can cause your eyelashes to break eventually if you use it too often.
Clear Mascara
You can actually do a clear mascara before you place the color that you are using. The reason? It causes your lashes to look fuller and longer! It’s also a great way to ensure that your lashes are going to stay looking long and fresh!
Color Tricks
You can use colors to actually make your lashes look longer. For example, putting black along the edges lashes and then brown in the middle can make your lashes appear so much longer and thicker. Also take your time applying mascara it helps separate them and keep them from clumping, therefore making them look longer.
Brush your Lashes
If you brush your lashes, you’ll see just how thick, how full and how long they are! Just simply use an eyebrow brush. It's the simple things that get those lashes looking gorgeous.
Mascara Brush
Know the brush that you are working with! Is it silicone, is it clumpy, is it double-sided? There are so many different mascara brushes out there, you have to find the one that really works for you!
Permanent Eyeliner
Permanent eyeliner will help enhance those lashes. This is one sure way you can avoid having to apply mascara all together, it will keep your eyelashes looking soft and pop your eye's out as well.

How to strengthen your hair

how TO STRENGTHEN YOUR HAIR

We all want strong, shiny, healthy hair, but unfortunately the stresses and strains of daily modern life tend to make it difficult. A busy schedule often mean our locks don't get the attention they deserve. Between the outdoors and the indoors, our hair tends to become neglected, weak, fragile and brittle. If your strands are feeling a little on the worse side, and you’d like to see their natural shine restored, these helpful tips will help guide you in the right direction.

PROTEIN

It is important to understand that weak hair needs special attention. If yours is feeling a little brittle and lifeless, you’ll need to get yourself a specially designed set of shampoo and conditioner. Opt for something that is protein enriched: this will help your hair to rebuild it's strength you long for. We offer a great variety of shampoo's and conditioners at the salon. Ask about our Joico k-pak line to get you started!

MOISTURe

Dull, fragile hair is often left looking lifeless because it is dehydrated. Very dry hair is prone to breakage in ways that healthy, nourished locks are not, and so it’s important that you give yours the moisture that it needs. Apply an intense conditioning hair mask about once every week, or twice in times of real hair crisis, and consider a leave in re-hydrating treatment as well.

less heat

Beware of taking very hot showers. Exposing your locks to high temperatures can actually contribute to weakening. Make sure your water temperature is sitting somewhere around the pleasantly warm mark, and never let it go all the way up to scalding hot. We also encourage less heat when you use your blow dryer  if you have a medium setting use that before the high heat, or just simply air dry your hair.

diet

Your diet is such an important factor when it comes to re-conditioning weak and lifeless hair. Make sure you are getting all the correct vitamins and minerals by adding a multivitamin to your daily diet regime, or by increasing your intake of foods rich in protein and iron, and those full of calcium as well.

PROTECT

Curling irons, blow dryers and ceramic hair straighteners have become tools in our everyday beauty arsenals, and, as we know by now, they also contribute significantly to weakening our locks. In order to avoid dehydration and the breakage that results from it, it is crucial that you apply a defensive product before you get on with using the heat from one of those tools. This will help to seal in moisture, and will guard against the weakening effect of exposure to high temperatures as well.

GET RID OF SPLIT ENDS

Split ends occur when hair is especially dry and fragile at the tips and they pose a real threat to the rest of your locks as well. Split ends can ‘grow’ up the length of the hair, so that eventually almost the entire strand is cut in two. It goes without saying that this contributes significantly to weakening, and so, in order to keep your locks strong, it’s important that you trim about every six weeks or so.

DETANGLER

While this is perhaps not so much a means by which to strengthen hair as a strategy to avoid excessive breakage, it is very important to consider. Especially if your hair is a little on the fragile side, you don’t want to be dragging a brush or comb through them; instead, get yourself a good quality detangling spray and use it to help you to brush without breakage.

SPF

We often forget that our hair, when it is exposed to UV rays, suffers significantly from sun damage. In order to protect your locks from this kind of inevitable wear and tear, it’s a good idea to invest in an SPF enriched product for your hair.
We offer a great 4 step conditions treatment at the salon as well! Call 330-733-0700 to set up your appointment today, before the heat from your house sucks all the moisture away from your strands.

Fixes for Thinning Hair

WAYS TO HIDE THINNING HAIR

There are plenty of ways to hide thinning hair.  Now, I’m sure you know wigs, weaves and extensions are all cool ways for disguising thinning hair but, there are plenty of other things you can try. Whether your thinning problem is reversible or a result of genetics and/or age, there is a way to add hair volume without having to pay top dollar for hairpieces! Interesting, right? Well, check out these following suggestions:

change

Darker shades of hair makes thinning more noticeable, which is why hairdressers usually advise a hair color change! Simply go a shade or two (maybe even three if you’re brave) lighter and those areas where your scalp used to kind of peek through won’t be as noticeable as before.

LAYER IT

Disguising thinning hair or giving the illusion of volume to thin hair can be achieved with tons of layers! Ask your stylist to cut a few more layers, style them then explain how to achieve the same result at home. Have them suggest a few products and styling techniques for you to use on daily basis.

VOLUMIZE!

Although it gives great results, teasing as a popular volume-boosting method probably isn’t what you want to be doing day, after day! No need to risk further thinning, breakage and damage. Why not experiment with other ways to add hair volume such as thickening hair care and styling products? Thickening shampoo and conditioner will work wonders on their own, giving you the illusion of at least 20% thicker hair. But, you can also follow up with a root booster, volumizing mousse or powder and crank that volume up even more.

ACESSORIZE

But what if your thinning hair isn’t a result of age or genetics, but a completely reversible damage your hair had sustained through your wig or extension wearing habit or chemical treatments? Well, time to give your hair a break, there are ways to hide thinning hair and look absolutely gorgeous in the process! Fold your favorite scarf into a headband or invest (and maybe even design) a few elasticized, quick-slip ones to have on the go and you’ll have a trendy interesting look to experiment with while growing out your edges.
COLOR
Scalp colors are another interesting, highly effective way to hide thinning hair and make those critical patched areas less noticeable. Don’t give up your beloved hair color – get a matching spray-on color instead and achieve that head full of hair at home! You will have to experiment a bit to find the product that works best for you, but once you discover that perfect, non-sticky, non-transferable, long lasting formula, obtaining a flawless hairstyle will be a piece of cake!
be CREATIVE
Speaking about ways to hide thinning hair – here’s a tip that never gets old! Part your hair differently and experiment with hairstyles that can help make those critical areas less noticeable. And with so many hair accessories you can use… who’s to say you won’t even enjoy your new and improved styling habits!
KERATIN PROTEIN FIBErs
Look for a product containing keratin protein fibers! This product basically looks like a powder, but actually contains special protein fibers that attach themselves to your hair making it look thicker, fuller and more voluminous! And crazy as it may sound – this revolutionary product really works magic and, unlike scalp color sprays, won’t run in humid weather!
