Cut-a-Thon Snips of Sucess!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Cut-a-Thon event and help us raise a grand total of $2,500 for Officer Mark Dodez! 

We could not be more ecstatic about the turn out! It is amazing what 59 hair cuts, 20 waxes, 24 nail treatments, 14 facials and makeup applications, & 11 massages can do! Let's not forget to mention the 16 wonderful raffle prizes available. All of the gifts were donated from local community businesses or members. We are so fortunate to have such a giving community!

I personally had the opportunity to receive a makeup make-over from Valerie, one of our skilled make-up artists.

Here is my Before...Don't Laugh, I admit I needed help!

 

TIP Makeup 101: Moisturizing before applying make-up will increase the hold of the makeup.

Tip from Valerie: A makeup primer is a great tool to create a clean even base for flawless makeup.





Foundation:  My lesson started with a light layer of foundation to event my tone and hide pesty blemishes. Having a fair skin tone we decided to go with the Mineral Tint "Cameo Glow". All the mineral tint foundations are a light cream base. I was skeptical because I am used to a powder (which is also available) but the mineral tint impressed me by being very light and comfortably wearable. It smoothed out my tone perfectly. I few brushes of the Dual Bronzer and I was glowing. Tip from Valerie: Dual Bronzer is a great alternative to blush for a great summer glow. 

Eye Shadow: Next, I was educated on the layer effects of eye-shadow. I have naturally deep set eyes and, with no technique, would slap a layer of grey shadow all over my lid and be done with it. Ending up with raccoon eyes I suppose that was not the best. Valerie had me explore some lighter shades for brightening and opening my eyes. We started with a Longwearing Cream Eyeshadow "Bubbly". It was a beautiful base color! Valerie worked in shading with the High Density Single Eye Shadows "Champagne" and "Vanilla". Tip from April: For over 40 women, keep shimmer to a minimum to avoid accentuating any wrinkles!

Smokey Eye Tip from Valerie: To keep skin clean while doing a smokey eye, apply a layer of loose powder under the eye. This will catch any shadow from falling to your cheek and settling in your skin. 

After completing your smokey look, gentle brush away extra powder and fallen shadow.


Eye Liner: My blue eyes needed a pop of color. The "Peacock" Perfect Eyeliner did the trick followed by the Precision Black Eyeliner to define my lid line. This was very easy to apply because of the fine tip!

Mascara: Luscious lashes are every girls desire and TIGI has two very lengthening, and defining mascaras. Eyes Love It in a brown and black, and Lash Love in black which I had the opportunity to try. Marie, one of our stylists, said "I am not easily impressed by mascara, but this is amazing" when referring to these products. 

Last but not least...

Lips: I am not a lipstick wearer although I am considering with our new Decadent Lipstick colors. For my makeover I used the "Maui" Lip Creme for a boost of color. The "Diamonds & Pearls" Lipgloss polished off my whole look with a pucker. Tip from April: Leave any powder on lips, it acts as a  base so that your lip colors do not migrate.

Springfield Township has been devastated by the tragic accident of dedicated officer Mark Dodez this recent March 31st. Dodez was struck by a drunk driver and suffers paralyzing injuries. You can read more of his road to recovery at his website.

Face the Facts Facial Truths

Our poor pores! Why are there so many facial myths?

It's time to face the facts and explore your way to healthier skin.

Most Common Misconceptions:

The facial might cause my face to break out: False

     Professional facials are cosmetic treatments done by Estheticians who are trained to identify what your skin needs. The pores are opened during the procedure to draw out or extract any clogging of the pores. After being steamed, cleansed, and treated to your condition the only slim possibility of breakout would be due to the clarified open pores being susceptible to new debris or build up. (not because of the facial product)

Why spend money when I can do it from home? Don't try it at home!

     Estheticians are trained professionals using the appropriate products and procedures specifically for your skin condition. Home made facials are not guaranteed to be suited for how your skin should be treated. (Beware of breakouts when considering home treatments.) It is important to be advised by a professional first to obtain the products and procedure knowledge needed to best care for your skin.

I already have a Dermatologist I don't need and Estetician.: False

     These two professionals often work hand and hand with each other. It is not either, or if you want to properly care for your skin. Dermatologists can verify your condition and prescribe medications but do not always know how to advise on the best methods of treatment. They also check for other more dangerous conditions such as cancer which makes a minimal yearly visit very important. Estheticians, on the other hand, provide daily care instructions with cosmetic products to assist in making your skin condition healthier.  

Facials are another frivolous pampering routine: False

     Although facials are pampering they are more importantly beneficial to having the best skin possible. Facials are mostly thought of as just another way of relaxing (which indeed they are relaxing involving gentle touch, neck and shoulder massaging and skin rejuvenating) although they also target and focus on correcting problem issues such as acne, dryness, aging, discolorations, etc. 

They are under looked for the most part as one client verified when walking away from her first facial. " I never realized how unhealthy my skin looked and felt before now. I defiantly have a new opinion of my whole skin care procedure."

Fro No! Frizz-tastic Taming Tricks

It has been one hot, rainy, humid summer to say the least and we wanted to share a treatment that will make your beauty life easier and explore some of the best products on the market that will keep that frizz controlled.

Fun Fact: Hair can be thought of as dry skin. It needs constant moisture! When it is damp or rainy out, we experience frizzy hair because the hair it's self is attempting to grab the moisture out of the hair. Similar to a flower reaching for sun light. If we treat to hair and moisturize it, the hair will not need to search for the moisture from the air therefore reducing frizz.

Quick Tip: Gina, our Joico educator, suggests leave in conditioners of the Deva Curl line for curly haired girls. It doesn't make sense to put lotion on your skin before getting in the shower, so why condition your hair and proceed to wash it out?
