Balayage/Ombre Hair

WHY SHOULD YOU BALAYAGE/OMBRE YOUR HAIR
The reasons to get the Balayage/Ombre hair you’re about to read should convince you to give this style a go, proving that the wow factor isn’t the only benefit you can expect should you decide to become one of many stylish ladies rocking Balayage/Ombre hair dye. Here are some reasons you should consider this beautiful look...

Trendy

Balayage/Ombre certainly is a hairstyle to go for if you’re into trends and fashion. Celebrities love it, bloggers love it, hairstylists love it, magazine editors as well – it’s a foolproof way to ensure a trendy look! Furthermore, if you’re trying to find at least a few reasons to get Balayage/Ombre hair, this one probably isn’t something you’ll want to dismiss easily.

Low Maintenance

It’s perfectly imperfect and made to look like a seriously overgrown dye-job in its final stages. You get to keep your regrowth and mid-length, with the ends being the only sections to receive a shot of color. The bottom line? No regrowth to require a touch-up this time next month because they should remain the way they are.

Easy to do at Home

Unlike most other trendy looks and even basic color jobs, Balayage/Ombre is super-easy to do at home! We have heard girls complaining about a streaky “Ombre” they’ve gotten from unknowledgeable stylists, yet most of the girls who did it as a fun, DIY ended up with a gorgeous style.

It’s Different

It’s not a full color job, yet it's much different than highlights too; it’s more glamorous than dip color. The Balayage/Ombre hair color technique is simply unique, made for girls who don’t mind standing out and a perfect choice if you like to experiment on your hair.

Doesn’t Cause Too Much Damage

Hair colors do damage no matter how you look at it, and bleach and light colors are hands down the worst of all. But dry, brittle hair isn’t the only downside of using harsh chemicals. Let’s not forget that you’re putting them on your scalp as well, which can ultimately affect hair growth and even damage the skin on your scalp. Balayage/Ombre, on the other hand, allows you to get an interesting and, dramatic change without having to risk all that damage. Your ends may sustain some amount of damage (especially if you’re going for a big contrast), but your regrowth and mid-length will remain intact. And since ends are pretty much the most disposable part of your hair, sacrificing them for the sake of style and good looks shouldn’t be so hard to do.

Easy to Transition from

The biggest problem with any new hair color or style is the fact that once you do it, going back to your old look isn’t at all easy. Balayage/Ombre techniques let you have your fun, dramatic change without dozens of what-ifs! Once you decide you don’t want it anymore, all you have to do is chop the ends off or color them back into your natural color. Great reason to get Ombre hair, isn’t it?

Over Processed Hair

 CARING FOR OVER-PROCESSED HAIR

Caring for over-processed hair is important, especially if you want to get those lovely locks back into shape. It takes time and effort, but it can be done.  Here's how to care for over-processed hair and making it look healthy, shiny, and vibrant again.

STOP WHAT YOU’RE DOING

When you’re first caring for over-processed hair, you have to ditch some of your hair habits. If you spend a lot of time coloring or bleaching your hair yourself, you’ll just keep damaging your already over-processed tresses. Make sure you have a professional working with you to make those strands healthy again. Try to step away from your blow dryer and your flat iron as well. If you simply have to use your tools, be smart about it: cool settings on the dryer and keep the straightening to a minimum.

DITCH THE SULFATES

Make sure none of your hair care products have sulfates in them. Your shampoo definitely shouldn't  but check your conditioner and your styling products as well. Sulfates dry out your hair horribly, so if you keep using sulfate-based products, you’ll also keep doing damage.

CONDITION X 3

Conditioning is the key to treating your over-processed hair. You have to condition with a rinse-out conditioner when you bathe or shower, but that’s just the beginning. Use a leave-in conditioner a few times a week, and give your hair deep conditioning treatments once a week. It seems like a lot of work but you’ll quickly see and feel improvements.

ADD EXTRA PROTEIN

Dry, damaged, over-processed hair needs protein. During your weekly hair care regimen, make sure you add a protein treatment into the mix. Check out our Joico K-Pak line. When you apply it, you have to make sure you get full coverage and then leave it in for 15 minutes or so. If your hair has gotten really weak, this should strengthen it.

BEAT THE HEAT

Stay away from the heat! At the very least, stop blow drying your hair for a while. Even if you can only manage to do it a few times a week, towel dry your hair, then let it air dry the rest of the way. Change up your routine if it helps, and start showering at night instead of in the morning. If you have to straighten your hair, either look for no heat methodsm or keep your flat iron on a much lower setting.

TRIM YOUR SPLITS

Make sure you go get your split ends trimmed on a regular basis, every 6-8 weeks. You might have to do it more than once in a relatively short amount of time, but you’ll be glad to get rid of the damage. Don't wait month's at a time, especially if you're trying to grow your hair out.  Remember keeping up with your trims helps you grow your hair out faster. If you have ton's of split ends they will just keep splitting and it will take forever to see good results for length.

PROTECTION AND PREVENTION

When your hair is over-processed, you have to be vigilant. If you’re out and about, even on a cloudy day, protect your hair from the sun in any way you can. You should also use protective products, just make sure they’re incredibly gentle. We have a great variety of heat protective styling products. Ask your hair professional when at your next salon visit.

Go Grey and Love the Way you Look

Grey hair is one of those embrace or maintain struggles that effects all men and women at some point in time. There are consequences to deciding either way as well as benefits, so it is best to weigh the option that fits you best. Grey today gone tomorrow is not quite the most common option any more. In recent years due to a mix of the economy down turn and celebrity endorsement, grey is making a come back as well as finding new ways to simply blend in. How you feel about it may vary but we would like to explore some options to avoid a black attack in search of youth again.
Operation grey is underway, now here are some popular options:

Run for Cover
Tending to grey hair by covering it up is a very popular option. Hair color is not a new idea, there were several techniques that even the Egyptians used to portray themselves at different societal statures.

Pros: Feel confident and return to your youth. Today the purpose of hair color is all about preference. What suits our personality, skin tone, and eye color best is always recommended. As for covering grey, it is good to be natural about it. Throwing a flat black color on to cover roots is not always better than going natural but keeping natural and following the suggestions of the professional stylist will leave you with beautiful, glowing results.

Cons: One word, maintenance. You will be visiting the salon often but at the same time if you enjoy your stylist and staff that is not such a bad thing after all.

Blend is the Trend
This option brings out he best of both worlds for a lot of people. If your hair is taking a grey of whit natural turn a blending of hi-lights or low-lights. Celebrities are embracing the natural look and wearing it well.
Pros: Even the hair coloring industry can identify with the benefits of having a "Touch of Grey". Upkeep is not as often and this option allows for a gradual covering or uncovering of grey if desired to make a change. Mixing the colors is flattering and gives the hair a very dynamic and with the perfect textured cut from your professional stylist you will be looking better than ever.

Cons: Maintenance is still required but not as often as a full color. You must be confident to show off your natural beauty a little bit but why wouldn't you feel your best with perfectly blended beauty?

Not Phased by Greys
Grey and white hair has become so desirable even the youthful Kelly Osbourne and singer Pink have reached to a new level of hair coloring by turning to grey for their most recent styles. Meryl Streep looked fabulous in "The Devil Wears Prada" natural do.

Pros: Natural grey and white hair is complimenting to your skin tone and flaunts your confidence in a refreshing natural way. Real, natural beauty is often disguised by makeup and hair color and it is about time we feel beautiful naturally.

Cons: I can not twist having a renewed confidence and saving money into a con, therefore I am defeated on identifying a con. Happy beauty!

Hollywood Ombre Highlights make a Nicole Jeffrey's Appearance

Have you seen this new "Ombre"
highlight trend around Hollywood?
This look was originated to recreate a California surfer look. Sun kissed hair with a beautiful natural looking bohemian wave is it's intended style. Ombre is French for shaded. Notice the top of the hair is darker with a subtle shade difference highlighted through the bottom for a very natural feel. This highlight also provides a renewed youth to your hair to restore the days spent in the sun as a child. Normally the "grown out roots look" is not a fashion forward statement. Luckily with the Ombre technique you can blend in with Hollywood's finest.
The technique behind this new highlighting is very unique and leads to beautiful results when executed correctly. Gina, our Joice Educator and Salon Manager has practiced this technique and is spreading the Hollywood statement hair around the Greater Akron area. Get beach babe hair in North East Ohio!

 Don't go overboard with contrast.
The beauty of the Ombre highlight is ruined with incorrect shading.
This should still be a highlighting technique not a defined layered coloring.

Want the bohemian curl too?
Barrel curl styling will do the trick.
Part your hair all the way down the middle to the back. Take little pieces and work your way up to the front wrapping the hair back around the outside of the curling iron. If you choose to invest in a single barrel curler (as pictured) then you will see the best results.
Key to the curl: Make sure your twist the hair into a small rope with your hands before wrapping around the iron for a looser  natural wave.
