Beach Hair

REJUVENATE YOUR HAIR AFTER THE BEACH
Everyone loves a day spent relaxing by the water, except for your hair, that is. The salty sea air and water can do serious damage to your hair if you’re not careful. Here are some ways to rejuvenate your hair after a day spent near the waves!

Leave-in Conditioner

Leave-in conditioner is definitely one of the fastest and easiest ways to rejuvenate your hair. Spray a little bit in your damp hair, and you’ll notice a world of difference when your hair dries. It will feel soft, even if you just spent the day swimming in salt water!

Dry Shampoo

If your hair looks a little grimy after a day at the beach, spray some dry shampoo in it. Not only will it get rid of any grease and build-up, but dry shampoo also adds a nice texture to your hair, as well as giving your hair a lot of volume to play with!

Play with Your Natural Texture

If you just spent the day at the beach, there’s a fairly good chance that the salty air has helped your hair achieve the beach waves goodness we all attempt to replicate on a daily basis. If you’re satisfied with how it looks naturally, leave it rather than try to tame it with different oils and moisturizers!

Coconut Oil

If you have thin hair, proceed with caution when it comes to coconut oil, it can leave the hair looking greasy. It’s a great moisturizer for your hair, especially after a day at the beach, when you’re looking for something that will get the job done while smelling as amazing as the beach you just left. If you apply it before, it can help seal in your hair cuticles and protect them from damage.

Do Some Prep Work

If you’re worried about damage before you go to the beach, you can try a moisturizing mask or a leave-in conditioner before you head out. If you’re spending the day at the pool rather than the beach, there are so many products we offer that will save your hair from chlorine damage, whether you’re blonde or brunette!

Give Your Hair a Break

Both before and after a day at the beach, it’s important to give your hair some time off. Don’t run straight to the flat iron or blow dryer after a day at the beach, no matter how tempting it may seem. Think of it this way: you’re worn out after a day at the beach, and so is your hair. Don’t put it through too much after a day of salty air and swimming!

Try a Moisturizing Mask

If your hair is in major need of repair after a day at the beach, try our brazilian blowout hair masque or our intense hydrator. The night after a day at the beach, slather your hair with a moisturizing mask to get it back to its original softness. In fact, your hair may even be softer than you remember!

Hair Shampooing

WHY YOU SHOULDN'T SHAMPOO YOUR HAIR EVERYDAY
There are many factors that can go into how many days you can skip shampooing your hair, such as hair type, thickness, and whether or not it is processed in some form or another.

NATURAL OILS
One of the biggest reasons why you shouldn't wash yor hair every day is because of the natural oils on your hair and scalp. While many try so hard to get rid of these oils, the truth is, they are wonderful for your hair. Your natural oils will make your hair healthier and shinier than most products. The thicker your hair is, the more time it takes for these oils to work their way down the strands of your hair, meaning you can go longer between shampooing. Even those with thin hair should be able to go at least every other day without lathering up.

HAIR STYLING
Hair tends to style better the day you don't shampoo your hair. Curls stay in place better, it's easier to brush your hair back into a ponytail or bun, and fly-aways are more easily tamed. This is why many stylist recommend coming into the salon with dirty hair before getting an up-do or any type of special service.

FRESHER COLOR
The less often you can shampoo your hair, the better your color will look. Shampoo's can strip the color from your hair or simply cause it to fade. Since coloring, your hair isn't exactly cheap, it's best to keep up with your investment by skipping shampoo as often as you can.

HAIR APPEARANCE
Not only will your hair style better, your hair will also look better. Everything seems to stay in place better on day 2. You won't be as bothered with frizz or dry looking tresses after skipping the shampoo. If your hair does look greasy at the roots, simply spray with a dry shampoo or add some baby powder.

LESS BUILDUP
Often the greasy look we get in our hair isn't because of our own natural oils, but because of product build up from shampooing and styling. Although your hair may go through an adjustment period when you first start skipping shampooing, you'll begin to notice your hair looking less oily between shampoo's.

LESS HEAT
It's no secret that heat is bad for your hair. Using hair dryers and styling products can cause your hair to break and leave your locks looking lifeless. If you skip the shampoo's, that also means you can skip the blow drying and extra heat on your hair.

Giving Fine Hair Volume

HOW TO GIVE YOUR FINE HAIR MORE VOLUME
When you have fine hair, you are constantly on the lookout for ways to add volume. You can’t change the thickness or texture of your hair, but you can do the best you can with what you have. These are some ways to make the most of your fine hair.

right shampoo & conditioner

One of the best ways to pump up fine hair is to start with the right shampoo and conditioner. When you are shopping for shampoo and conditioner, choose a formula that is formulated to add body or volume to your hair. These shampoos and conditioners are formulated to not weigh your hair down and be a light product. You especially want to avoid anything that says it will moisturize your hair. Products that moisturize your hair will weigh it down. Try out our Volume shampoo by Joico!

ROOT LIFTER

If you have fine hair, root lifter will make a lot of difference in styling your hair. Try our root lifter by Joico, or our Aquage. Apply root lifter when your hair is damp and blow dry immediately for the magic to happen.

UPSIDE DOWN Blowdry

You need to dry in the direction you want your hair to go. When you have fine hair that you are trying to add volume to, you want your hair to go farther away from your head and blow drying your hair upside down is drying it away from your scalp to add volume. Another option is to hold your hair up and away from your face while you dry it. Either way will give you the desired result.

BIOTIN

Biotin is known for making your hair grow faster and make it thicker. While you can’t ever change the texture of your fine hair, you can take Biotin which really pumps up the volume. Of course, you should always talk to your physician before taking any new supplement.

SHORTER CUT

Sometimes, the best thing you can do is embrace what you have and choose a cut and style that works best with your hair. Shorter cuts will make your hair appear fuller and thicker.

BACKCOMB

Backcombing or teasing can be very beneficial in pumping up the volume of your hair when done correctly. What you want to do is raise a section of your hair up and tease under it and then put the smooth section down on top of it. This strategy usually works best when used at the crown of the head.

 Free day

Fine hair is more fragile than other hair types and you need to treat it gently to avoid the breakage that makes it look even finer. I have learned that one of the best ways to do this is to give your hair the day off when you can. Skip washing your hair or styling it with any styling tools the day you are giving your hair the day off. If your hair gets oily when you skip washing it, try adding some dry shampoo to get you through.

How to get your Hair Blowout to last

how TO MAKE YOUR hair BLOWOUT LAST

How to make a blow out last seems to be a question most women have. There’s nothing like a good blowout from the salon to make you feel like a brand new woman! We get our hair done, fall in love with that beautifully tousled hair and, naturally, want to find out how to make it last. It’s not that easy, of course, but it can be done which is what matters the most! So here's a few hair tricks and effective ways to make your blowout last as long as possible so you can preserve the sexy feel and keep your locks looking lovely as long as possible!

hands off

One of the hardest things to do after you get a fabulous blowout is to keep your hands off those soft and silky strands but it’s one of the most important rules! The one you must follow in case you want to master the art of how to make a blowout last. Touching your hair will cause it to lose its shape and body as well cause your scalp to produce oil so admire your hair from afar and avoid touching it at all costs!
WRAP IT UP
Wrapping your hair up can mean the difference between waking up to soft, straight strands and having to face a tangled mess! Grab a silk scarf and carefully and loosely wrap your hair up so that the ends aren't disturbed and leave bangs out. Avoid putting anything that might dent or produce weird lines in your hair.
TIE it DOWN
If you don't have a silk scarf to use, another trick to making a blowout last is to loosely tie the ends of your hair in a ponytail with a soft scrunchie high on the top of your head. Leave out the front portion that frames your face and sleep with a satin pillowcase. The key here is to loosely tie up your hair so that your strands and ends remain intact without becoming tangled or causing frizz.
SHOWER AND SHINE
Make your blowout last even in the shower by putting your hair up again in a high and loose ponytail and tie a scarf or bandana around your hairline so that the shower cap doesn't make any your hair and to keep hair from getting wet. Once you're done showering, dry yourself off and shake your hair out. Feel free to use hairspray to help settle your hair. One hairspray that will be great is Bed Head Masterpiece for $19.50.  It will provide hold without that crunchy look and will keep your hair looking healthy and shiny.
DRY SHAMPOO
Another important step in how to make a blowout last is to use a dry shampoo after a couple of days when your scalp and/or hair starts feeling a little oily. There are a lot of excellent dry shampoo's available, we offer the Kenra for $19.50 . Spritz or powder your roots and gently rub or brush the formula in to improve the look, feel, smell and texture of your hair!
REDUCE PRODUCT USE
When you’re looking for ways to make your blowout last, keep in mind that you want to use the least amount of products possible such as serums, certain hairsprays and shine enhancers. You can use these products, especially if you're hoping to prolong your blowout for a work week, although using them towards the end is generally considered better  as it will allow you to have a fresher looking style as opposed to the one matted with a full week’s worth of product buildup.
BRING THE HEAT
One of the final steps in how to make a blowout last is to use a large barreled curling iron to give your hair some oomph. Change your part for more volume and use dry shampoo again if needed. Give your hair some bouncy curls or just use the iron to flip the ends under and get a more uniform look. If you don't have time to curl your hair, dirty hair is always the easiest to style and braid so go for a fun fishtail braid or try something new!
