When diving into the statistics of this devastating disease that effects our
loved ones and friends and we too are at risk, it becomes more evident
that we have a long way to go in this fight and still no one is giving up
HOPE!
What are we fighting?
Relentless......In 2010, an estimated 207,090 new cases (1 in every 8 women) of invasive
breast cancer were expected to be diagnosed in women in the U.S.,
along with 54,010 new cases of non-invasive (in situ) breast cancer.
Unrelated......About 70-80% of breast cancers occur in women who have no
family history of breast cancer. These occur due to genetic
abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and life in
general, rather than inherited mutations. (Risk is doubled if a mother,
sister or daughter has been diagnosed only because the gene
mutation could be passed on by relation.)
Not Just a Girl Thing... Men too can suffer from breast cancer as estimated at 1,970
new cases in 2010.
HOPE for a World with More Birthday's
Survivors......In 2010 there were more than 2.5million survivor's in the U.S.
Strides..........The American Cancer Society not only dedicates it's funds to research for a
cure but it also educates and informs women of the steps to take for an
early detection for overall higher survivor rates year after year.
